A global manufacturer of movable folding room partitions used in hotels and convention centers contacted Kilian for a special bearing assembly that was needed to securely hold the heavy partition panels in place. Retention strength was critical, but equally important was the effort required to move the partitions – these big, heavy walls had to move easily and smoothly to satisfy ergonomic requirements.
A manufacturer of movable glass and wall partitions for homes and businesses contacted Kilian and asked the Kilian team to come up with a solution to their problem. The issue was the current moving mechanism was a solid unit creating excessive heavy friction when opening and closing the movable walls.
A high-pressure cleaning machine manufacturer submitted a request to the Kilian team. This manufacturer needed a custom bearing solution that could handle a guide hose reel. The custom bearing had to allow the unit to hold, retract and dispense the hose for the cleaning machines. The hose reel needed to perform accurately to avoid tangling and also provide a safe operating environment for the user.
Recently Kilian worked with an OEM that had been purchasing expensive bearings for their transmission drives – bearings that did not meet their needs or suit their drive units
A large greenhouse OEM needed a bearing assembly that would effectively control the movement of their track lighting system used in their greenhouses.
The Kilian team assessed and analyzed exactly how the new bearing design should be applied as well as the environmental factors that would affect the bearing.

The customer’s engineering team contacted Kilian early in their development process and began working closely with their design engineering counterparts at Kilian. For this new and challenging application, “catalog” detents were not an option.
A company that supplies recreational vehicle manufacturers with a mechanism used on RV room slide-outs was using a precision track roller bearing as part of the assembly. The bearings, by design, were through-hardened, which was causing the track rollers to crack and fail. Kilian engineers inspected the bearings and the assembly and determined the root cause of the failure.
A major seating manufacturer that supplies products to one of the world’s bestselling minivans needed a unique bearing to fit into a folding seat assembly that allows the second and third-row seats to be folded flat into the floor in less than 30 seconds. The manufacturer’s engineers realized early on that an off-the-shelf bearing would not work for such a custom application. In addition to requiring a special mechanism to attach the assembly to the seats, the bearing material needed to accommodate tremendous loads, high stress and excessive torque.
A high volume pallet rack manufacturer contacted Kilian Bearings because they were having serious delivery problems with their current supplier. The manufacturer was using a high cost, fully-ground precision bearing. In addition, to make the bearing function properly in the application, seven different components needed to be assembled around the bearing, which added cost and time for the customer.
